SENDING YOUR GEARBOX TO US

Before sending your gearbox to us please ensure the following....
Fully drain the gearbox oil
Remove detachable clutch housings , clutch release arms , gear levers/remote housings , switches and mountings etc.
Due to the amount of gearbox's we receive we cannot be held responsible for the return of any of the above if not removed and an additional charge may be made to remove any of the above

REBUILDING PROCESS

When your gearbox is received we dismantle your unit to evaluate the condition of the internal parts, cases, castings etc.
The gearbox is then hot tank cleaned and painted, all gaskets, oil seals, bearings, needle roller bearings. Syncro's where applicable are inspected and replaced as required.
Any gears, shafts or associated parts & hardware is inspected then replaced with either new or reclaimed parts as required.

Final assembly is completed with new plated nuts, bolts, washers etc.

OILS

British classic/sports cars leak oil FACT!
We endeavour to eliminate this with quality gaskets and sealants although cannot guarantee what the British motoring industry failed to accomplish
We only recommend using the manufacturer grade oil/capacity.
The use of any modern/synthetic oils or additives will not be guaranteed on leakages or synchromesh problems

JAGUAR MOSS GEARBOXES

Parts for Moss gearboxes have not been available for many years, we can replace bearings, lay shaft, gaskets & oil seals etc. together with reclaimed gears if required subject to availability.
Unfortunately the moss gearbox uses a unique syncromesh system where 2nd. 3rd. & 4th. Gears have the syncromesh cone machined integral with each gear so that the only way to replace the worn out syncromesh is to replace each complete gear.
As no new replacement gears are available we have devised a method of reworking the syncromesh parts to “improve” on the gear selection.
However 1st. gear is a straight cut “crash” gear and a certain amount of characteristic “whine” should be expected.
The moss gearboxes have never been very socialable to drive and should not be compared to your modern day “all syncromesh” mode of transport.
The secret to shifting gear on these transmissions is to hesitate slightly in neutral between gears. Once you learn to do this you can change gear quite quickly.

WARNING MOSS GEARBOXES ARE NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!!
